As a constituent, and on Medicare's birthday, I’m writing to ask that you sign on as a sponsor of HR 3, Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act. Prescription drug prices are high and getting higher. According to study released in 2021, 1 in 2 Pennsylvanians are struggling to afford the prescription drugs they need, and 1 in 5 are cutting pills in half, skipping doses, and leaving their prescription at the pharmacy. This means people are putting their health in danger because they can't afford the outrageous cost of prescription medications. HR 3 would allow Medicare the authority to negotiate for lower drug prices. As seniors and older adults are more likely to be on a fixed income and take multiple prescriptions, they have disproportionately likely to have high drug costs. Giving Medicare the ability to negotiate costs would ensure that folks spend less of their retirement money on drugs, while still having access to life saving or improving medications. I hope that you will take action and sponsor HR 3 for the sake of your constituents. Thank you for your consideration.
