I'm calling to ask Representative X to support legislation proposed by Representative Malcolm Kenyatta to increase TANF payments to 50% of the federal poverty level, and to encourage Governor Wolf to include a grant increase in his 2022-23 budget. The Pennsylvania legislature hasn't increased the cash grant since 1990. The current TANF payments, $403 for a family of three, don't help families make ends meet, buy diapers or keep the lights on. 

Before the pandemic, 1 in 14 children lived in deep poverty. The pandemic has increased hardship, hunger, and inequality. Children in families benefiting from programs like TANF do better in school and have increased earning power in adulthood. Adequate benefits allow parents to spend more of their time focusing on getting sustainable jobs. No child should live in deep poverty. Our kids deserve stability and a future.
